Q: How do I know what level is the best fit for me?
A: Do your research. Find out where players are coming from at the schools you are interested in, talk to your current coaches and contact college coaches to gauge your ability and chances of playing at a particular level.
Q: When will I have to make a decision once I have been accepted to a school?
A: Most schools require an response to an Offer of Acceptance in late April or early May. Some schools may allow you to defer admission until the following year.
Q: Does being accepted and then deferring admission increase my chances of being recruited by that school?
A: Possibly. It is certainly not going to hurt your chances. This option allows you to continue to build a relationship with a schools coaching staff while you also contiue to develop as a player. Most college coaches will gain some interest once they are aware you have been admitted.
Q: Do college hockey programs have alumni associations?
A: Most colleges and universities have an alumni association. In some cases the hockey program will have its own alumni association of former players and coaches. This is a very often overlooked benefit players should inquire about when choosing a school.
